A very small proportion of the Extra Virgin Olive Oils produced in the Mediterranean contain phenolic compounds. There is a growing body of research showing how high phenolic oil can help prevent cancer, heart disease, and cognitive impairment.
Our new product represents an emerging category of early harvest olive oil that is rich in phenolic content and satisfies an E.U. Health Claim (Commission Regulation (EU) 432/2012) for enhanced health protective properties. This health claim is associated to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and recognises olive oil polyphenols, including the compounds oleocanthal and oleacein, as having anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. This Regulation can only be applied to olive oil containing at least 250mg of polyphenols per kg of olive oil and states that the beneficial effect is obtained from a daily intake of 20g of olive oil.
Health Claim (EU 432/2012): Olive oil polyphenols protect blood lipid from oxidative stress. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 20g of olive oil.
